IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

SAILING PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
Swimming Requirement: All participants enrolled in the program must pass the following swim test. The test is performed wearing sailing clothing. - Jump from a float into deep water without a life jacket; swim 20 feet; don life jacket while treading water; float with confidence for 10 minutes; climb out.

Life Jacket requirement: Each student must provide and wear a Coast Guard approved Type III PFD (Personal Floatation Device). A style that zips up is most desirable. Jacket must be marked with child's name in a visible location. It is recommended that students also bring to each class a complete change of clothing and a towel.

Wet Suit requirement: Due to the water temperature and wind chill factor present on Tomales Bay, each student must provide and wear a wet suit.  Exemptions can only be given by the sailing program director.  Wet suits can be found at dive shops and sporting goods stores including REI and Cost-Co.

Shoes: Closed toed shoes are required.

Lunch: Students bring their own lunch, snacks and drinks to class each day. We remind students and parents that all unused food and beverages should be returned home with the sailor. Do not leave trash at the Club.

Student Boats: Optimist, Laser, el Toro or FJ. The boat must comply with the Club's safety and sail-ability requirements and the student's abilities.

Standard of Conduct: At all times while on the Yacht Club Premisis and while on the water, each student shall be expected to maintain the premises, boats and equipment in a seaman like manner, i.e., clean, orderly and shipshape.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
Parents are expected to help organize and supervise group activities.

Orientation meetings: A brief orientation for parents and students of each session will be conducted at 9 am. on the first morning of class. This meeting is mandatory for a parent or grandparent of each student. If either the child or the guardian miss the orientation the child may be dropped from the program.

Session I:   Monday June 30 at 0900
Session II:  Monday July 28 at 0900

Parent of the Day: Parent of the Day (POD) is a new component of our Youth Sailing Program which was begun in 2002. The parent or guardian of each sailor in the program must devote one day, spent at the Inverness Yacht Club as the POD. A detailed description of POD duties will be provided in the handbook; fundamentally, the POD will assist the instructors in maintaining a safe environment for the sailors.
